Volunteer Spotlight – Third Grade Horizon Students Martinez Elementary School

The Third-grade Horizons students at Martinez Elementary School were looking for a way to spread love and kindness in our community. To accomplish that, students decided to reach out to the Ronald McDonald House for ideas. Ms. Alaya Johnson, our Volunteer Coordinator, expressed the need for Valentine’s Day door decorations. The students went through the engineering design process to create their door hangers and incorporated art and math skills to bring together this product from the heart. Students were able to design hearts and other decorations to go on the wood pieces using Tinkercad and then producing them on the 3D printer. Lowes on Bobby Jones Expressway generously donated the wood and the lumber to the exact specs. The students were thrilled to extend their learning in a way to help others.
