Meet Our Families – The Canadys

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta provides a home-away-from-home for over 1,000 families each year and we love when our families share their stories. The Da Silva Souza family shared this story (edited for publishing).

“Our son, Sawyer, was born on April 26, 2022, at just 23 weeks 6 days gestation at Augusta University Hospital .and has remained at the NICU in the Children’s Hospital of Georgia since. My husband, Kyle, and I have been staying at the Ronald McDonald House since his birth. It has truly been such a blessing for our family to be able to stay so close to the hospital so that we can spend time with Sawyer every day. It has also allowed us to be involved in his daily care, which is essential for his growth and development. If it weren’t for RMHC Augusta, we would be commuting 2.5 hours from our home in Toccoa and it just wouldn’t be financially possible for us to be in Augusta as much as we would like. Our family will forever be grateful to the organization for providing a place to stay and meals for us for the past 5 months and for the months to come until discharge.”

The Canadys have spent 160 days at RMHC Augusta, and we will continue to be here as long as they need us. To support our mission of keeping families like Sawyer’s close, consider making a donation today.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta serves over 1,000 families each year. Our volunteer-run community kitchen serves over 15,000 meals, and our volunteers and families run over 5,000 loads of laundry every year.
